Lowe’s Renovation Across the Nation Partnership!

The Boys & Girls Club of Watertown has received a $50,000 grant from Lowe’s to create an outdoor recreation area. This space will allow Club members of all ages the freedom to play and spend time outdoors in a safe and supervised environment without needing to cross busy streets. The recreation center is one of the Club’s many strategies to get youth in the habit of creating a culture of physical activity and wellness. Youth will develop physical coordination, strength, and flexibility and have opportunities for social and emotional development.  Four-square, basketball, play structures and outdoor seating will be the highlights of this area.

The grant is part of Renovation Across the Nation, a program between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Lowe’s that provides one Club in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. with a grant and volunteer support from Lowe’s to complete much-needed improvements and renovations. The Boys & Girls Club of Watertown was selected as the signature Club in the state of South Dakota for 2018. Lowe’s support will help the Club make critical improvements to ensure the Club remains a safe and inviting place for Watertown’s youth.

“We know that the healthy habits developed in childhood and adolescence affect an individual’s wellness and quality of life throughout adulthood,” said Louis Canfield, Director of Operations. “This is my favorite part of the renovation because it will allow our members to safely play outside without crossing busy streets. Having this new recreation area will be a huge benefit for our kids and staff.”

The Club partnered with the Lowe’s store in Brookings to complete the renovation.
